Anthony Hopkins and Frances McDormand are among the most important names in the shortlist of the Bafta film awards, the English 'Oscars', released today 9 March.

The awards ceremony is expected on 11 April without an audience.


    Hollywood legend Hopkins was nominated for her performance in "The Father," in which she plays a man who slips into dementia.

Fargo actress Frances McDormand was selected for her role in the acclaimed independent road movie "Nomadland," which she also produced, in which she plays a nomadic woman traveling to the American West.

The film's Chinese director Chloe Zhao is one of four women shortlisted for the best directorial award.


    The others are Shannon Murphy for "Babyteeth", an Australian coming-of-age drama, Bosnian Jasmila Zbanic for "Quo Vadis, Aida?"

and Britain's Sarah Gavron for "Rocks".


    "Rocks" stars Bukky Bakray as a black London teenager who is left to fend for herself after being abandoned by her mother.

Bakray will face McDormand in the category of Best Actresses.
