Soprano Renée Doria, popular singer in the post-war period, has died at the age of one hundred, the Marseille Opera announced on Wednesday.
“The oldest will remember that she began her immense career at the Opéra de Marseille.
Fortunately, she leaves an important record legacy, which highlights her technique, her musicality and an irreproachable French style ”

“ the doyenne of French lyric artists ”

Over seventy roles
It made its debut in 1942, under the Occupation.
In an interview with the Forum Opera website in 2014, she remembers attending a performance of
Ariadne à Naxos,
an opera by Richard Strauss, at the Opéra-Comique in Paris:
“I arrived from my province.
I had been given places and it was all green.
Only Germans in uniform, ”
she said.

Popular in the 1940s and 1950s, the soprano, born in Perpignan on February 13, 1921, sang more than seventy roles on the major French stages and contributed to numerous lyrical shows in France and abroad.
She, too, left several recordings.
In the early 1980s, however, she decided to end her career.
“When you can't do things the way you want to anymore, you better stop.
It's not funny to get up in the morning and say to yourself "come on, let's go for three quarters of an hour of vocalizations"
