Much has been said about the British breed of corona, but not all information was unequivocal.

Now, after discovering that it is more contagious, researchers publish today that the British strain causes a mortality rate of about 30 to 100 percent, reports the Reuters news agency.

In a study comparing mortality rates among people in the UK infected with the new version of SARS-CoV-2, known as B.1.1.7, compared to those infected with other strains, scientists said the new version included "significantly higher" mortality.

Version B.1.1.7 was first identified in the UK in September 2020, and has since spread to more than 100 countries.

This is also the dominant mutation today in Israel.

The British strain has 23 mutations in its genetic code - a relatively high number - and some have allowed it to be much more contagious and spread rapidly.

Scientists have previously claimed that this strain is about 40-70 percent more contagious than other versions of the corona.

In addition, some of these changes, in different locations on the virus can also alter the body's immune response to it and affect the symptoms associated with the infection.

In the British study, published in the British Medical Journal, infection in the new version led to 227 deaths in a sample of 54,906 COVID-19 patients, compared with 141 among the same number of patients infected with other versions. 7. A threat that needs to be taken seriously, "said Robert Chalen, a researcher at the University of Exeter, who led the study.

"Very bad news."

So far as mentioned, studies show that current vaccines protect against the British mutation, and that wearing masks, social alienation and maintaining hygiene are the key to controlling the spread of the virus.

Despite this, Michael Australem, an epidemiologist and a member of President Joe Biden's Corona Crisis Transition Team, said as early as January that he was "convinced" that the new version was more deadly.

"The data is growing - and some I can not share - and clearly support the fact that B.1.1.7 causes more severe diseases and increased mortality," said Australol, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.

"We already know that this version has increased the contagion, so this is very bad news."
