Banksy in all variations - almost the entire spectrum of the world's most famous street art artist can be seen here in an exhibition in Munich.
Banksy myth: The Briton has been successfully keeping his true identity secret for more than 20 years
He also did not authorize the exhibition.
It shows many reproductions, but also some originals, according to the organizer.
Guillermo S. Qunintana, curator:
»We have more than 100 works here, including montages, prints, sculptures and illustrations. The idea is that we create a whole experience so that one understands all of Banksy's work. The most important thing is that you come here and find out how Banksy developed all of this throughout his career. "
Sometimes Banky's work is ephemeral because its stage is streets, houses - or the subway.
But they also live from the fact that people perceive them in their everyday lives.
These are the moments that the organizers want to bring to life.
Guillermo S. Qunintana, Curator:
“It was a cool moment for me that he did this on the British subway during the Corona period. Few people can see it because the car will be swapped out as soon as someone notices the graffiti. So we tried to reproduce that moment, that experience, to give people a chance to dive into that situation and see how it works. We also have the video of how he did it. And we give everything to make our reproductions as similar as possible so that people can experience the interaction of this work. "
Banksy's work has long since achieved international fame - which is further increased through well-thought-out PR.
An original of this picture, "Girl With Baloon", was auctioned for the equivalent of around 1.2 million euros - and then partly shredded itself.
The exhibition is still in Munich until May 2nd.
Due to the corona pandemic, however, visitors have to book a visiting time in advance.
After that, the exhibition will move on to Heidelberg and Berlin.
