(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, MARCH 11 - The rise of new Covid cases in India is worrying: according to the bulletin of the Health Minister today 22,854 new infections were recorded, the highest number recorded in one day in 2021.

86% of new cases are concentrated in six states: the two most affected are Maharashtra and Kerala, followed by Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

In the district of Nagpur, in Maharashtra, the lockdown was imposed again due to the criticality of the situation.

In the rest of the country, life is almost normal everywhere, and precautionary indications such as physical distance in public events or religious rites, in which thousands of people participate, are often not followed.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 11 million 285 thousand people have been infected in India, with 158,189 victims: India is in second place in the world in absolute terms for infections after the United States and the fourth for deaths, after the USA, Brazil and Mexico.

The vaccination campaign, which began on January 16, resulted in 25 million immunizations.
