Curfew, confinement on weekends and departments under surveillance: no turn of the screw or lightening

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced Thursday that the sanitary measures in force, at the national as well as local level, remained unchanged.

The health situation, although worrying, has stabilized: nothing is changing.

Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, announced Thursday, during the traditional press conference, no change on the curfew, which remains maintained at 6 p.m. everywhere in France, on local confinements on weekends already in place in Dunkirk (Nord), in Pas-de-Calais and Alpes-Maritimes, and that the 23 departments under surveillance remain so.

After pointing 20 departments two weeks ago, three more were added to the list a week ago.

This map of departments "under surveillance", under the threat of a turn of the screw in the event of health deterioration, remains unchanged.

The Minister of Health, however, warned of the situation in Île-de-France where the bar of 1,000 people in intensive care has been crossed in recent days.

After a visit from Olivier Véran at the end of February, the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes, faced with an outbreak of cases and strong hospital pressure, announced the establishment of weekend containment on the coast of the department.

It came into force on the weekend of February 27, at the same time as that in Dunkirk, decided a few days later, in the face of a high rate of incidence due to the presence of the British variant.

These two confinements have been extended: until the end of the month for Dunkirk and again next weekend, at least, for the Alpes-Maritimes.

Thursday, during a press conference, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced weekend containment for Pas-de-Calais, without giving a deadline.

The prefecture had specified that it would be in force at least until the end of March.

The government had decided to extend the curfew at 6 p.m. everywhere in France in mid-January, after having instituted it at 8 p.m.

With the lengthening of the days, local elected officials from departments less affected by the epidemic demanded a relaxation of the rules.
