After the sensational interview by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, a friend of the Duchess has now spoken out - and supported Meghan's version of the events.

In an interview with the TV program "This Morning", actress Janina Gavankar said that there were numerous "emails and messages" that supported Meghan's story.

"The truth will come to light," continued Gavankar.

According to the actress, Gavankar and Meghan have known each other privately for 17 years, a close friendship connects the two.

She even watched the broadcast of the TV interview with her friend, said Gavankar.

"We are happy that we are now in this new era," said the actress. Meghan and her husband could finally tell the truth. "It's nice to see how free they feel."

Serious allegations against the royal family

Meghan and Harry had made serious allegations against the royal family in the interview broadcast on Sunday evening with US talk show legend Oprah Winfrey.

Among other things, they accused the family of lacking support and accused them of making racist statements.

When she was pregnant with son Archie, there were concerns "how dark his skin might be when he is born," Meghan said.

The couple did not want to say which royal these statements came from - only Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and her husband Prince Philip, 99, were later exempted by Winfrey.

Meghan also spoke about bullying and suicidal ideation that she suffered from at times.

She felt very alone during this time.

According to Gavankar, Meghan sought help "from all of them," including her husband, when she did not receive this help from the royal family.

The Duchess's difficulties were known in the palace, Gavankar continued.

During her time in the British palace, "a wall" was built around Meghan.

As a friend, she knew what was going on behind it.

But Meghan told her and everyone else that she shouldn't talk about it.

"I wanted to defend her, but she was told to tell us that we should never comment on any of this - because the institution would protect her," said Gavankar.

That makes her particularly angry because it is clear today that Meghan has received no protection.

Meghan was very isolated during this time.

Gavankar said she was happy that the couple could now decide for themselves again about their own lives.
