(ANSA) - REGGIO CALABRIA, 12 MAR - Giuseppe Romeo, a fugitive belonging to the 'Ndrangheta and included in the list of the most dangerous, was arrested in Barcelona, Spain by the men of the Spanish Civil Guard, who located him thanks to the information provided by the investigators of the Italian Police .
Romeo is the recipient of two precautionary custody orders in prison and last November he was sentenced by the Gup of Reggio Calabria to 20 years of imprisonment.
Romeo, a fugitive since 2018, was found by the Spanish Guardia Civil's 'Operative Team' thanks to a police operation made possible by the cooperation provided by the Reggio Calabria mobile squad and the State Police Sco. In 2018, Romeo had escaped arrest in the context of the "European 'Ndrangheta Connection" anti-drug operation, coordinated by the prosecutor Giovanni Bombardieri, the adjunct Giuseppe Lombardo and the deputy prosecutors Simona Ferraiuolo and Alessandro Moffa. At the time, the investigating judge had issued a European arrest warrant. In recent days, the investigations have allowed the DDA and the Reggio Calabria police to provide their Spanish colleagues with significant information on the presence in the Iberian Peninsula of Giuseppe Romeo, included in the list of dangerous aviators drawn up by the Ministry of the Interior.
