Burma: 12 dead yesterday, protests continue

The anti-coup protests in Burma continue after yesterday's bloody day, which ended with a toll of at least 12 demonstrators killed by the security forces, one of the heaviest recorded so far. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 12 - Anti-coup protests continue in Burma after yesterday's bloody day, which closed with a toll of at least 12 demonstrators killed by security forces, one of the heaviest recorded so far.

According to reports from the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (AAPP), a non-profit organization for the defense of human rights based in Thailand, at least eight of the victims of yesterday died in the town of Myaing (center).

Overall, over 70 people have been killed by the military since the beginning of the protests, the NGO points out, and 2,045 were arrested.
