(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, MAR 11 - "All Americans will be declared vaccinable by May 1st" and by July 4 there will be a return to almost normalcy, with the possibility of "small groups" to make the barbeque "by celebrating not only Independence Day but also independence from the virus ".
This was announced by Joe Biden in his first address to the nation in prime time, one year after the start of the pandemic.
The president made his debut criticized without naming him Donald Trump for the silences and denial with which he dealt with the virus, before recalling the almost 530 American militants, "more than those of the first and second world war, the conflict in Vietnam and September 11 combined ".
Then, illustrating the next stages of the battle against the coronavirus, he opened the doors of the vaccine for all adults, calling for the abolition of age and category priorities: "I will order states, territories and tribes to make candidates eligible for vaccine all adult Americans by May 1, "he said, even if that doesn't mean everyone will receive the inoculation.
But Biden expects to have it for everyone by the end of May and to cross the 100 million vaccination milestone in its first 60 days, 40 days ahead of schedule.
The commander in chief also announced the deployment of an additional 4,000 troops to reinforce the vaccination campaign, bringing the total number to 6,000.
To accelerate it, it also foresees a doubling of the current mass vaccination requirements (now almost 600), another 700 health care centers for underserved communities and an increase in the pharmacies participating in the federal program for the distribution of vials.
It also foresees the use of identists, veterinarians, medical students and other operators to carry out vaccinations.
The federal government will open a website on May 1st to allow Americans to identify where vaccines are available and will provide a toll-free number for those without internet access.
All measures, he recalled, made possible by the new $ 1900 billion Covid aid plan approved by Congress and which he has signed.
