2021-03-12T17:25:30.907Z

After Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca, this is the fourth serum against the coronavirus to be inoculated in the country.

No bad surprises.

As expected, the day after the decision of the European regulator, the High Authority for Health (HAS) has just given this Friday the green light for the use of the Janssen vaccine from Johnson & Johnson in France.

However, the first deliveries of the product should not arrive until April.

The effectiveness of the Janssen vaccine has been tested in clinical trials on approximately 40,000 people aged 18 years or older in several countries, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa.

About half received the vaccine, the other half received a placebo, and the two groups were compared.

The vaccine has been shown to be 85% effective in preventing severe forms of Covid-19, which is crucial because it is what prevents hospitalizations and deaths.

No vaccinated person died from the virus in the trials, compared to seven deaths in the placebo group.

One injection

Manufactured by Janssen-Cilag, a subsidiary of the American laboratory Johnson & Johnson, this viral vector vaccine is also 66% effective against normal forms of Covid-19, according to its designers.

Unlike other serums already in circulation, it only requires one injection and not two.

It was also recently authorized in the United States and Canada, and South Africa became the first country to administer it in mid-February.
