"Luigi was the light in her eyes, her favorite son."

Yodet Nallar, Vicente Maillo's nephew, described the devotion that the Río Gallegos merchant had for one of his wife's two children, Susana Reina, whom he had adopted as his own and even given his surname.

Now Luis (27) is being tried for the crime along with his brother José Maximiliano (37) and his mother, Susana Reina (57), upset that Maillo (60) had left them out of the inheritance.

Reina's mother, María del Carmen Espiritoso (83), who died in 2019, was also accused.

Nallar's sentence (45) was heard on the fourth day of the trial in which Maillo's sisters -Petra and Ana Gloria- also testified, asking the accused to leave the multipurpose room of the Río Gallegos Police , where the trial is taking place.

Although the three left the room, they remained near the door to hear the testimonies.

Relatives of the victim said that "Vicente was tired of what Luis was doing," even though he was their favorite son.

"He

never brought a notebook from college, I'm going to cut his supplies.

He has to study or the fuck is over

”, the merchant had once said.

Luis led a life far removed from that of a hard-working university student in the Federal Capital, according to family members.

He had a high-end car (Audi), lived in a Recolecta department, studied at a private university (UADE) and liked champagne and nightlife

.

“I was spending more than the bill.

The 20 thousand pesos that Vicente sent him lasted a week, "said one of the victim's sisters.

The trial for the murder of Vicente Maillo will continue until March 17 / Photo Nuevo Día.

“Luis spent a lot of money in Buenos Aires and Vicente did not close the numbers.

That was why he had decided to cut off his supplies.

This was also a cause of anger of the family against our brother ”, affirmed Petra and Ana Gloria.

This situation was used by Reina during the reconstruction of the crime to justify the presence in his house of Javier Etchebarne (22), the alleged hitman accused of killing the merchant with four stab wounds.

“Etchebarne came to my house to collect 11 thousand dollars that Luis owed him.

It's that he (for Luis) spent a lot and then he had to borrow money ”, he justified.

Maillo was assassinated on the night of November 16, 21017. The strongest hypothesis presented by the prosecution was that it was

a family plan to eliminate him because he had left them out of the inheritance.

However, now the widow intends to take charge of the crime.

"Reina was tired of the psychological, economic and physical violence that her husband exerted on her," her new lawyer, Carlos Telleldín, assured this newspaper.

If this hypothesis is successful, the two sons of Reina (a woman Maillo met on the night in Río Gallegos) would be excluded from the cause and would regain their freedom.

The trial is in charge of judges Joaquín Cabral, Jorge Yance and Carlos Arenillas.

It will run until March 17 and around 50 witnesses will parade.
