After the death of a patient during cosmetic surgery, charges were brought against a gynecologist from Lower Saxony.
The doctor from the Oldenburg district is accused of fatal bodily harm, said senior prosecutor Nadja Niesen in Frankfurt am Main on Friday.
The indictment goes back to an incident in November 2019 in a practice in Frankfurt.
The 59-year-old doctor wanted to suck off fat from a 34-year-old patient and tighten her upper eyelids.
Without first obtaining permission from the woman for the 1400 euro expensive medical procedure, he administered her anesthetic and first sucked off the fat deposits on her neck.
The woman was then put under anesthesia again while the procedure was performed on the lids.
According to the results of the investigation, the patient suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated.
Two weeks later she died in the hospital.
According to Niesen, the accused doctor ignored, among other things, an anesthetic intolerance in the patient.
In addition, he "did not follow the rules of medical art" during the operation.
In addition, the hygienic standards were not observed.
According to the prosecutor, the accused doctor has not yet commented on the allegation.
Dates for the hearing before the jury chamber of the Frankfurt Regional Court have not yet been set either.
