A family man has been sentenced to life imprisonment in California following a harrowing insurance fraud case that drowned two brothers.
According to the US judicial authority on Thursday, Federal Judge John F. Walter imposed a maximum sentence of 212 years on the 45-year-old man.
This "greedy and brutal murderer" carried out an "evil and diabolical" plan, said Walter.
The offender was "the ultimate fraudster and a notorious liar," the judge continued.
The perpetrator is only sorry for one thing: that he was blown.
According to the indictment, the man had taken out multiple life and accidental death insurance policies for the family of five.
In April 2015, he purposely drove his car into the water from a dock in Los Angeles to kill his ex-wife and the two 8 and 13-year-old autistic sons and collect their premiums.
The father went to safety through the car window, the mother, a non-swimmer, was rescued by fishermen.
The two boys drowned.
The couple's third son was not in the car.
With the bonus for his dead sons he bought a boat
According to the Los Angeles Times, the man had taken out insurance policies worth more than three million US dollars with eight insurance companies between 2012 and 2013.
He is said to have repeatedly made sure that the companies actually pay in the event of an accidental death.
Shortly after a contractual period for possible payments had expired, the perpetrator drove his car off the dock in the port of Los Angeles.
The man said it was an accident.
He was arrested in 2018 and found guilty of fraud and money laundering a year later.
In addition to the life sentence, the man has to repay more than $ 260,000 to insurance companies.
He received this after the death of his children and used it to buy a boat and real estate, among other things.
