For Ben Crump, lawyer for the family of George Floyd, the agreement is "historic".
The city of Minneapolis will pay $ 27 million in damages to the family of George Floyd, following a complaint filed against the municipality and the four police officers involved in the death of the young man.
"This amicable settlement is the most important in the history of the United States in a proceeding concerning fundamental rights brought for a death attributable to a fault," said relatives of George Floyd in a statement.
$ 500,000 will be dedicated to improving the neighborhood in which George Floyd died.
Minneapolis also plans to reform its police to create a "new model of public safety."
"The horrific death of George Floyd, seen by millions of people around the world, has unleashed a deep demand for justice and change," Ben Crump said in a statement.
The trial of Derek Chauvin, a police officer accused of the murder of George Floyd began earlier this week, March 9.
