The product could contain dangerous E. coli bacteria.

Wuppertal / Munich - On Saturday, the Wuppertal manufacturer of dairy products informed Münnich fromage GmbH & Co. KG about the recall * of a popular item.

Various production ranges of the soft cheese 'Camembert Graindorge 250g' are currently being recalled, as the manufacturer cannot rule out that the cheese contains the pathogenic germ E-coli (VTEC).

Cheese recall: Soft cheese is not only sold at Kaufland - life-threatening complications are possible

The recall * affects items with the identification number FR 14.371.001 CE and the best before date of April 7, 2021.

As Münnich fromage explains in a press release, the cheese concerned is not suitable for consumption.

But what can E. coli bacteria trigger?

Infections triggered by such germs can cause diarrhea in all forms.

Infants, toddlers under six years of age, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible to infection and are therefore at risk.

The EHEC pathogen is one of the most common causes of food poisoning, it is highly infectious, as little as 10-100 individuals can cause an illness.

In the most vulnerable groups, infection can even trigger life-threatening complications in the worst cases.

Cheese recall: Serious consequences from E. coli bacteria - purchase price reimbursement even without receipt

Especially in the endangered groups of people, a so-called haemolytic-uraemic syndrome develops after the intestinal symptoms in five to ten percent of cases.

This usually causes damage to the blood vessels, the red blood cells and the kidneys.

Dialysis is therefore often the result, but cerebral haemorrhage, organ damage or neurological disorders can also be a consequence.

If people show the symptoms mentioned when consuming the products, a visit to a doctor is strongly recommended.

Affected consumers can return the relevant items at the point of sale, and the full purchase price for the Camembert will be reimbursed even without the appropriate receipt.

In its statement, the Wuppertal company asks its customers to “excuse the inconvenience”.

Manufacturers have to pay attention to a few things when producing food, but sometimes mistakes creep in.

Another cheese producer recently had to recall several types due to listeria.
