The former Polish president Lech Walesa, an icon of the fight against the communist regime in the 1980s, today published a worried video message announcing his hospitalization, fearing that he may not survive.
"I'm going to the hospital. What comes next, only time will tell. So, since I don't know when we will see each other again or if we will see each other again, I would like to say that I have done everything to serve the nation well. Until next time, if fate me it will allow us to stay a little longer on this earth. Otherwise, pray for me, "said the 77-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former president of Poland in the video posted on Facebook.
His secretary, Marek Kaczmar, explained that the charismatic former leader of the trade union movement Solidarnosc is hospitalizing for the scheduled replacement of his pacemaker battery, but that "there are complications".
"The operation is scheduled for tomorrow - he said - unless today's tests show that it is necessary to intervene immediately".
