The Nas carabinieri, at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor of Biella, are seizing the doses of the ABV5811 AstraZeneca lot that the Piedmont Region Crisis Unit suspended yesterday after the death of Sandro Tognatti, the clarinet professor who died in his home in Cossato poche hours after administration of the Astrazeneca vaccine.
The prosecutor of Biella has opened an investigation into the death.
The investigations are coordinated by the prosecutor Teresa Angela Camelio and directed by the deputy prosecutor Paola Francesca Ranieri, who ordered the seizure of the batches.
The seizure activities of the NAS Carabinieri are being carried out at all distribution HUBs and vaccination centers where a total of 393,600 doses relating to the batch of AstraZeneca Covid-19 ABV5811 vaccine, already blocked in Piedmont, have been delivered.
This was announced by the Carabinieri Nas.
The seizure is for the purpose of "binding the quantities not yet administered and present in stock".
"The NAS, on the instructions of the prosecutor of Biella, seized another batch this morning in Veneto, the ABV5811 of the Astrazeneca vaccine, as is happening in other Italian regions".
This was said by the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia.
"It is another serious blow - he added - to the vaccination system. It is not known whether the Astrazeneca vaccine is a contributing cause or cause of death, but we need to clarify it quickly".
The seizure of the lot in Veneto involved 20,348 doses out of a total of 41,300.
"The remaining 20,952 - concluded Zaia - had already been administered and no evidence emerged, other than low-grade fever or a state of exhaustion".
