The agricultural organization stresses that "with the pandemic, the United States has become the world's largest consumers of Italian pasta outside national borders, thanks to a record increase of 40% which allows it to overtake France (+ 4.3%) and Germany. (+ 16%), but Great Britain is also running (+ 19%) despite Brexit ".

Growth in other continents is also significant, with an increase of 39% in Australia while in Asia, there is a leap in Japan (+ 16%) and China (+ 23%).

"Pasta also wins at home with Italians who have increased purchases in value by 10% in 2020 with peaks of 29% for that produced only with tricolor wheat", says Coldiretti.



The organization also recalls, on the basis of its analysis on Ismea data, the home boom of 'do-it-yourself' that has made the consumption of flour (+ 38%) and eggs (+ 14.5%) soar, with the mixer has become an indispensable tool in the kitchen, so much so that it even officially enters the Istat basket in 2020.

Italy - concludes Coldiretti - is "the country with the highest consumption of pasta for a quantity of 23.5 kilograms each against 17 in Tunisia, second in this special ranking, followed by Venezuela (12 kg), Greece ( 11 kg), Chile (9.4 kg), United States (8.8 kg), Argentina and Turkey tied (8.7 kg).
