Waste separation is important, but organic waste in particular is unfortunately prone to unpleasant smells and fruit flies.
This storage trick can help.
Kitchen waste, fruit bowls *, leftover food: Cooking and baking produce a lot of rubbish that
belongs
in the
organic
waste
bin
or on the
compost
.
But especially in warmer months, this unfortunately also means that an
unpleasant smell
spreads
in the kitchen
and unpleasant insects such as
fruit flies are
attracted, for which organic waste is a paradise.
So that you don't have to worry about it anymore, there is a clever idea.
But be careful: you should see it as a short-term help, not a long-term solution.
Interim storage of organic waste in the freezer: quick help against odors and flies
Especially in the evening you sometimes don't want to go out again to take away the organic waste.
But the guilty conscience warns you: The organic waste is already too full, it is already beginning to stink ... So what should you do?
Have you ever had the idea of simply storing leftover food, banana peels and the like
in the freezer
?
Pack the organic waste in a bag or can and put it in the freezer.
Because of the low temperatures, the disintegration process comes to a standstill, so there is no risk of mold forming.
The organic waste is stored odor-proof and fruit flies will not find it there either.
The next day, if you want to go out anyway, you can take the organic waste with you - but please dispose of it without a bag, of course.
I've always hated organic waste, especially in summer.
Now we have it in a container in the freezer.
Nothing smells and no bags, no newspaper required.
And there's nothing lying around in the kitchen.

Another plus point: If you use a reusable container, there is
no additional waste
such as organic
waste
bags or newspaper.
For some people, this tip is unlikely to work as they don't want to store waste products in the freezer with food that is yet to be consumed.
But as long as the organic waste is well packaged, there is no risk of other food being “contaminated” when it is frozen.
