This is confirmed by the data of the Iias Italian Institute of Frozen Foods, on the occasion of the "International Day of Happiness" on March 20, analyzing the trend of the typical foods used for happy hour, pizzas, French fries, salty snacks in the frozen version.
In the first 4 months of 2020, with sociality confined within the home and a spasmodic search for normality, the sales of frozen foods, savory snacks recorded an increase in consumption of 21.5%, pizza by 12.5% and french fries by 12%. A picture that demonstrates how food is not only a source of nourishment, but also a tool to lift the mood to get a little cuddle, beyond the period in which you are living. The Institute reports, in fact, that already in 2019, potatoes-pizza-savory snacks in the frozen version had recorded an important consumption for the sector of 150,800 tons in the Retail channel, from potatoes with 72,300 tons (+ 0.7% on 2018) to pizzas and savory snacks with 78,500 tons (+ 2.4%). The catering channel also reached important numbers in 2019 with 89,700 tons of sales, of which 75,100 tons of potatoes (+ 1.5%) and 14,600 tons of pizzas and savory snacks (+ 0.7%). And if in home mode, frozen food allows you to prepare an aperitif in just a few minutes, according to the institute they can also become protagonists in the world of catering, given the particular historical moment, thanks to the very high levels of food safety and hygiene, able to keep the nutritional characteristics of fresh food intact.
