Consumption could even lead to kidney failure.

Nine federal states do not warn consumers urgently enough.

Update from March 16, 2021, 10.15 a.m .:

The company concerned Münnich fromage GmbH & Co. KG clearly states in a current press release: “The product was sold nationwide by Kaufland, by the cheese specialty wholesaler Heiderbeck GmbH in 82140 Olching (Munich district ) as well as from the akzenta supermarket branch in 42283 Wuppertal-Barmen. ”This affects all of Kaufland's customers.

Nationwide cheese recall at Kaufland: Consumption of popular soft cheese can lead to kidney failure

One day after the public recall

Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia have declared their concern on the official portal "Lebensmittelwarnung.de".

However, there are no reports from the other twelve federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia.

Here again, for example, consumers from the “defaulting” federal states who only display the messages relevant to their federal state on the portal (using the filter function offered) do not receive any information.

Cheese recall at Kaufland: Despite possible life-threatening consequences: Nine federal states concern not yet recognized

Even two days after the urgent public food warning and the significant health risk from potential consumption of the cheese, only three other federal states (Hamburg, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate) have recognized that consumers are affected in their areas of responsibility.

Conversely, this also means that, despite the risk of acute kidney failure with possible fatal consequences, nine federal states still do not consider it necessary to immediately add themselves to the list of affected federal states.

These are the federal states: Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia.

But what can E. coli bacteria trigger?

Infections triggered by such germs can cause diarrhea in all forms.

Infants, toddlers under six years of age, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible to infection and are therefore at risk.

The EHEC pathogen is one of the most common causes of food poisoning, it is highly infectious, as little as 10-100 individuals can cause an illness.

In the most vulnerable groups, infection can even trigger life-threatening complications in the worst cases.

Cheese recall: Serious consequences from E. coli bacteria - purchase price reimbursement even without receipt

Especially in the endangered groups of people, a so-called haemolytic-uraemic syndrome develops after the intestinal symptoms in five to ten percent of cases.

This usually causes damage to the blood vessels, the red blood cells and the kidneys.

Dialysis is therefore often the result, but cerebral haemorrhage, organ damage or neurological disorders can also be a consequence.

If people show the symptoms mentioned when consuming the products, a visit to a doctor is strongly recommended.

Affected consumers can return the relevant items at the point of sale, and the full purchase price for the Camembert will be reimbursed even without the appropriate receipt.

In its statement, the Wuppertal company asks its customers to “excuse the inconvenience”.

When it comes to food production, manufacturers have to pay attention to a number of things *, but mistakes sometimes creep in.

Another cheese producer recently had to recall several types due to listeria.
