Arriving in a coma from respiratory arrest at the hospital, a 40-day-old baby girl then tested positive for methadone and cocaine.

The Police of Lucca, explains the Police Headquarters, on the basis of the elements gathered, investigated the child's mother.

The child arrived at the hospital in Lucca, brought by her parents, on 11 March, and was then transferred to Pisa.

The analyzes revealed a methadone rate equal to 1,644 ng / ml and cocaine of 74 ng / ml: for both substances it is positive when the figure exceeds 100. "It became evident that in the face of such a high figure in the newborn methadone was administered ".

The little girl, still hospitalized, was also intubated in a first phase: now she is breathing alone, always explains the police who started investigations with the mobile team on 12 March. The examinations to which the little girl was immediately subjected would not have shown alterations such as to suggest a possible cause nor "were elements attributable to possible traumatic events visible". Then, "following the investigations carried out by the investigators - the police explained -, the newborn was carried out urinalysis in search of drugs". The tests revealed a rate of methadone on the basis of which the girl tested positive for this substance (not even for cocaine contrary to what was previously written: the rate of cocaine detected was 74 ng / ml, it is positive when exceeds 100). From what was always reported by the police, the parents, two young people, would have explained that they had found the newborn in the bed that was breathing badly and for this reason they would have then accompanied her to the hospital. From the investigations carried out, the investigators also learned that the mother does not breastfeed the baby. "On the basis of the investigative elements, the mother of the newborn was investigated".
