The first lockdown in Germany began a year ago.

While many companies refrained from hiring new employees at the beginning, the tide now seems to have turned.

Since March 16, 2020, there has been a state of emergency in Germany - also on the labor market.

Many companies were hesitant to hire new employees at the beginning of the pandemic.

A year later the situation is different.

As a study by the

Stepstone

job portal

shows, the

labor market

has

picked

up significantly again compared to the previous year

.

For its analysis, the portal evaluated the number of new job advertisements placed on StepStone.de from January 2020 to mid-March 2021, and compared the number of new memberships and applications * on StepStone.de.

- the period in which no measures were taken to contain the corona pandemic.

Compared to the beginning of the lockdown in mid-March 2020, the

number of open jobs has increased by 71 percent

.

"We are clearly noticing that the topic of recruiting employees is high on the agenda for companies," says Dr.

Tobias Zimmermann, job market expert at StepStone.

"For people looking for a job, this means that they have a good chance of finding a new job that really suits them."

Open jobs in the craft, social sector and administration

If you compare the number of newly published jobs on StepStone.de with those from a year ago, it becomes clear that there has been a particularly strong increase in demand for

craftsmen,

for example

(plus 132 percent)

and for employees in the

social and educational sectors (plus 126

percent)

Percent)

.

But employees in

administration (plus 102 percent)

and

logistics (plus 82 percent)

are also in demand.

In addition to skilled workers with technical know-how, people who work in nursing currently have good cards on the job market.

Because nurses are still immensely important for our society - the corona pandemic has shown that more than ever, "says Zimmermann.
