(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, MARCH 16 - The toll of night clashes in Lebanon between emilitary demonstrators in the context of the gradual worsening of social tension against the backdrop of an economic crisis that has been going on for a year and a half is about ten injured.

This was reported by the Beirut media according to which demonstrators last night stopped circulation on several roads in the capital and other cities in the country after the local lira recorded a new record low in exchange with the US dollar.

For one dollar now more than 13,500 lire are needed, while only 18 months ago they needed 1,500. This currency collapse, associated with the imposition by Lebanese banks of strict capital control of small and medium-sized savers, exacerbated the effects of a crisis aggravated later by the local and global effects of the pandemic.

Gas stations began plowing fuel sales yesterday for fear of running out of stock due to the lack of dollar funds to purchase the fuel.

For weeks, the Lebanese Electricity Company (EDL) has been rationing the supply of electricity for domestic use due to the lack of fuel to power the plants. (ANSAMed).
