Performance without an audience: the young German tenors Maximilian Daum and Jonas Wuermeling sang Easter and Passion songs in the deserted St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

Because of the corona restrictions in Italy, people in the capital are currently only supposed to leave their homes to go to work, buy groceries or go to the doctor.

A visit to St. Peter's Basilica is not planned.

Daum and Wuermeling sang the songs on the occasion of the upcoming Easter festival.

The recording of the 18 tracks was organized by K-TV and Vatican Radio.

Just like last Christmas, viewers and listeners could ask for their favorite songs, and the tenors sang them.

The head of the German section of Vatican Radio, Stefan von Kempis, described it as "a statement for the culture that was shut down in this pandemic".
