Encouraging findings from the truth data of the Maccabi HMO: Even among pregnant women, the effectiveness of the vaccine is very impressive and does not fall short of that among the general population.

From the summary of the immunization data of about two-thirds of the pregnant women in the fund, it appears that the effectiveness of the vaccine at this stage is 97%.

The proportion of patients in corona among unvaccinated women is significantly higher: 8.1% of pregnant women who have not been vaccinated have had corona (914), compared with only 0.05% among vaccinated pregnant women (three pregnant women).

All pregnant women who became infected and needed hospitalization were unvaccinated - 62 women making up 7.5% of those infected.

Of these, seven were defined as in a difficult situation.

Maccabi data also show that women in the first trimester of pregnancy, young women and women from low socio-economic status are less likely to be vaccinated.

"The data on pregnant women show a clear picture: a pregnant woman who is vaccinated defends herself," says Dr. Anat Aka-Zohar, director of the information and digital health department at Maccabi.

In recent days we have come to know how dangerous it is for pregnant women not to get vaccinated.

The disease is spread and affects everyone, and the risk of pregnant women is very high and preventable.

I call on pregnant women to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their fetus. "

To date, the rate of vaccinated pregnant women is still lower than the rate of immunization among all 40-20 year olds ranging from 70% to 82%.

Clalit has already vaccinated close to 33,000 pregnant women - 55% of all pregnant women.

At Maccabi and Meuhedet, 63% of the pregnant women were vaccinated at each of the funds, and at Leumit, 45% of the pregnant women have already received their first vaccine.

The hospitals hospitalize 24 pregnant women with corona and another 17 verified mothers.

Four of them are breathing and one is attached to Acmo.

Of the pregnant and maternity women, none were fully vaccinated.

Two received one vaccine dose, one received a second dose but less than a week has passed and 39 were not vaccinated at all.

Order in confusion

Recall that the beginning of the vaccination campaign was accompanied by ambiguity as to whether pregnant women could be vaccinated, because pregnant women were not included in the vaccine studies.

At first it was only recommended for pregnant women working in the health system and with high exposure for patients to consider getting vaccinated.

Shortly afterwards, however, the Ministry of Health and the Association of Physicians Specializing in Gynecology recommended that all pregnant women be vaccinated in the second or third trimester of pregnancy.

The reason for avoiding vaccination in the first trimester was circumstantial, because this period in pregnancy is characterized by a relatively high rate of bleeding, miscarriages and the formation of fetal malformations.

"In order to avoid suspicion, even accidental, between receiving the vaccine and these symptoms, we recommend that pregnant women who do not belong to the risk groups be vaccinated from the second trimester," the experts explained.

It was also recommended that breastfeeding women be vaccinated, as well as women who are planning to become pregnant or undergoing fertility treatment.

In addition, for a woman who received one vaccine dose and became pregnant, it was recommended that she complete the second vaccine dose according to the usual schedule.
