"We have ahead of us a scenario of a second wave, which as of today is very close. We cannot anticipate when it will be,
but we know that it is close
. And we are already seeing a slight but gradual increase in cases," said Wednesday the Buenos Aires Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós.
Argentina has been among the 15 countries with the highest number of accumulated cases for weeks since the beginning of the global health crisis.
This week, after having exceeded 2.2 million infections, it ranks 12th, according to the ranking produced by the Worldometer site.
In any case, if the incidence rate is taken, calculated according to the relationship between cases and population, the country registers an accumulated 48,500 infected per million inhabitants and is in 48th place globally.
Another data that the health authorities closely monitor is the positivity rate - that is, the percentage of tests that are positive - whose trend was downward, but in March it was reversed.

The
vaccine shortage
remains the biggest obstacle to progress in the fight against the pandemic.
To such an extent that this Wednesday the Government of the province of Buenos Aires was studying a scheme that plans to
apply the first dose to as many of the population as possible
and postpone the second for when the world drug market "stabilizes."
In the afternoon, meanwhile, the departure of a new Aerolineas Argentinas flight was announced that will bring
another shipment of Sputnik V
from Russia.
Flight AR1060 will depart this Thursday at 1.05 am, according to the confirmation of Pablo Ceriani, president of Aerolineas Argentinas.
It will cover the route directly and will stay four hours in Moscow, to carry out the load.
The return to the country, and under number AR1061, will be
next Friday at 15
.
How
many doses it will bring has not yet been announced
.
