Shawn Bradley: Former German national basketball player paraplegic after an accident

Shawn Bradley played with Dirk Nowitzki for a long time at the Dallas Mavericks. Now the 48-year-old former professional basketball player was seriously injured in his back in a bicycle accident.

During a bike ride in his home town in Utah, he was hit from behind by a car: Shawn Bradley, a former German national basketball player and long-time teammate of Dirk Nowitzki at the Dallas Mavericks, is now paraplegic.

This was announced by the club from the NBA professional league.

According to the announcement, the former center suffered a spinal cord injury.

Accordingly, the accident occurred on January 20th.

The 48-year-old, born in Landstuhl in the Palatinate, was operated on according to the club and has been in the hospital for eight weeks.

The rehab has already started.

"We're sad to hear about Shawn's accident," said Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

“Shawn has always had a tremendous fighting spirit.

We only wish him the best.

He will always be part of the Mavs family, ”Cuban said.

Bradley played with Nowitzki for six years

The 2.29 meter tall son of a German and an American was drafted in the NBA in 1993 by the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 1997 he moved to Dallas and played there after Nowitzki's commitment from 1999 to 2005.

Then he ended his career.

For the selection of the German Basketball Federation (DBB), he completed nine international matches in 2001 and took part in the European Championships in Turkey.

The German team finished fourth.
