(ANSA) - LA PAZ, MAR 18 - The former interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Añez, fell ill in the women's prison where she is serving four months of preventive prison for alleged participation in 2019 in a distant coup against the then president Evo Morales, apparently due to an increase in blood pressure, but she was treated in the infirmary of the detention center and not transferred to a clinic as her family requested.
The daughter, Carolina Ribera, argued that the transfer to the clinic was initially authorized but later through her attorney Norka Cuéllar, the mother learned that she would remain under medical supervision in the prison infirmary.
This decision, reports the news portal Erbol, was also confirmed by the director of the prison center, Carlos Limpias, according to which a medical staff will follow the evolution of Añez's health in prison.
Disappointed at the lack of transfer to the clinic, her daughter Carolina, claimed that her mother's life "is at risk" and through social networks she complained that for a long time she was not given treatment.
"For God's sake - he said - enough with so much humiliation! Enough with so much outrage!".
Officials from the People's Defender's Office (Ombudsman) went to the women's prison and urged the penitentiary authorities "to provide the detainee with all the health care that her case requires".
Añez was detained in a women's prison in La Paz on March 15 pending the General Prosecutor's Office to conclude the investigations for the revolted accusation of terrorism, sedition and conspiracy regarding the tensions and violence following the resignation of former president Morales, in Argentina.
