France, lockdown also in Paris but schools remain open

The French premier, Jean Castex, announced the third anti-coronavirus lockdown, 7 days a week, in 16 departments of France including those of Ile-de-France, the Paris region, starting Friday at midnight. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - PARIS, MAR 18 - The French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, has announced the third anti-coronavirus lockdown, 7 days a week, in 16 departments of France including that of Ile-de-France, the Paris region, in starting Friday midnight.

The new provisions against the invisible enemy will last four weeks.

Schools remain open.

"The progression of the epidemic is accelerating sharply", the premier, Jean Castex warned at a press conference in Paris, adding that this recovery always resembles "more than a third wave", in a context in which "we are approaching one hundred thousand dead".

Hence the decision to "massively curb" the virus.
