2021-03-18T19:43:29.084Z

Exits limited to 10 km, closure of so-called non-essential shops ... Jean Castex announced on Thursday new measures of "mass braking.

These restriction measures will apply from Saturday and for four weeks.

They could be extended "if necessary to other parts of the territory".

"The progression of the epidemic is accelerating markedly" with 38,000 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, 35,000 on Thursday and new cases increasing "by 23.6% in one week," lamented Prime Minister Jean Castex.

This "looks more and more clearly to a third wave, even as we approach the terrible figure of 100,000 dead," said the head of government.

In addition to the eight departments of Ile-de-France and the five of Hauts-de-France, the Alpes-Maritimes, Seine-Maritime and Eure are concerned.

Stores and department stores that do not fit into the list of "selling essential goods and services" will close their doors in the 16 departments affected by the re-containment.

Bookstores and record stores will be able to remain open, being considered from now on as "of first necessity".

"For the sake of fairness, the sales restrictions will apply to the same products whether they are sold in a department store, a specialized store or a small downtown business," said the Prime Minister.

Outings in the 16 departments affected by the new restrictions will be limited to "10 km around your home", with a certificate, but their duration will not be limited.

Interregional travel will be “prohibited, except for compelling or professional reasons”.

Schools and colleges will open normally but high schools will all switch to "half-gauge" in the 16 departments affected by the new restrictions.

On the other hand, physical and sports education for schoolchildren will be able to resume normally, and extra-curricular outdoor sports activities for minors will be maintained.

The curfew will be delayed in metropolitan France from this Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in particular to take into account the change to summer time, a measure which "will affect all departments and not only" those subject to new restrictions. .
