Abstract graphics instead of filmed action: the series »Calls« consists exclusively of telephone calls - and also deals with space and time. Can that be something? The short review.

What is the series »Calls« about?

In short: the relationship between space and time.

However, in the guise of short horror stories that are connected with each other - or not, that can only be found out in the course.

The first of the nine short episodes (between 13 and 21 minutes) is titled "The End" and revolves around a couple struggling to stay together or separate.

This aspect quickly fades into the background when a monstrous shadow appears in front of the apartment and people begin to float in the air.

What's so special?

There are no pictures of it.

All of the stories in the series develop from telephone conversations, which are illustrated with partly abstract and partly surprisingly tangible "narrative" graphics.

What is the catch?

"Calls" is not quite as experimental as its creators would have us believe.

Because the series is the remake of a French model.

And because the topos of the relativity of space and time and the possibility that people only live in an imaginary continuum have been extensively plowed not only in physics, but also in literature and film.

Just think of Christopher Nolan's film "Tenet" at the moment.

Do i have to see this?

It is definitely worth it anyway, precisely because in this case one should rather speak of "listening".

Even if individual episodes are not quite as original, each one gives you goose bumps.

This often results from the fact that the structure of the conversation only very slowly opens the rabbit hole in the direction of madness.

And that the radio play brings both a great concentration and a lot of imagination potential with it.

Because everyone makes the pictures of the happening themselves.
