The quake was recorded in the Tohoku region, northeast of Tokyo, at 18.09 local time (10.09 in Italy).
The quake had its epicenter in the sea off the Miyagi prefecture and its hypocenter at a depth of 54 kilometers, according to the Japan meteorological agency (JMA), which launched a tsunami warning and classified the intensity of the quake in 5 on the Japanese scale of maximum measurement of 7 levels.
