Matteo Garrone's film "Pinocchio", produced by the director himself with Rai Cinema and distributed in the USA by Roadside Attractions, was awarded the "LA, Italy - Best Italian Movie 2021" award.
The award will be given to Garrone after the special screening of the work on Sunday 18 April on the occasion of the opening day of the "16th Los Angeles, Italy - Film, Fashion and Art Festival".
"Pinocchio" will also receive other prizes: "LA, Italia Award" for the best Costumes of the year to Massimo Cantini Parrini and for the best Makeup and Hair Style to Dalia Colli, Mark Coulier and Francesco Pegoretti (both categories already in five at the Oscars) and the "Breakout Actor of the Year" to the very young Federico Ielapi, for the interpretation of Collodi's puppet.
With his film Matteo Garrone has relaunched the famous character in the world, anticipating the projects of two Hollywood colleagues, the Oscar winners Guillermo del Toro and Robert Zemeckis (currently working on two new Pinocchioes).
"LA, Italia 2021" will be dedicated to Sophia Loren, the most beloved Italian actress, who was awarded the "LA, Italia Legend Award" before the Academy awarded her the Visionary Award, which the star will receive on the occasion of the opening of the new Oscar museum built by Renzo Piano.
Among the other awards already announced by Los Angeles Italia 2021, the awards to directors Edoardo Ponti, for 'Life in front of himself' and Filippo Meneghetti for 'Due', recipients of the 'LA Italia - Excellence Awards'.

Now in its sixteenth edition, the happening of Italian cinema and audiovisual produced by Pascal Vicedomini, is promoted by the Capri Institute in the world with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the support of the MiC (DG Cinema and Audiovisual) and is with the participation of Intesa Sanpaolo, Rai Cinema, Rai Com, Rainbow, Medusa, Iervolino Entertainment, Isaia, and the Consulate General of Italy in LA, the Ice and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles.
