Confined, really? Outside life goes on (practically) as before

2021-03-20T19:25:41.929Z

Dreaded, the new restrictions in sixteen departments that took effect this Saturday do not ultimately change much to life

Under a cherry blossom tree in Martin-Luther-King Park, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, a couple immortalizes their wedding in front of the camera.

The casual white dress, the smile and even the sun, it's all there.

Further on, a group of seniors are engaged in a tonic gymnastics class.

There, a coach encourages his student boxer: “Knock harder, come on, that's good.

"Here, we hit the ball, it's a game of football for the adults, as for the children.

Like an air of life from before, even after.

Marjolaine, 35 years old this Sunday, had nevertheless listened to the intervention of Jean Castex Thursday evening from her home, in Seine-Saint-Denis, one of the departments where the number of infected people is the highest (512 per 100,000 inhabitants).

Of course, travel from the "red" territories (sixteen departments including all those of Ile-de-France and Hauts-de-France) are prohibited and outings limited to 10 km around home ... but "finally, that does not really change, launch the frame.

I can take my daughter to the park without time limitation and to the nursery quite normally.

You can work, walk, buy books… Life is no different.

It has absolutely nothing to do with what was imposed on us in March ”, she notes, the still bitter memory of the days going around in circles with Nina who was then 2 years old.

On the lawns, the masks fall

Everyone outside, after having had to stay inside… the change of gear is assumed by the government.

In our columns, Olivier Véran, Minister of Health, does not hide an evolution of the strategy in the face of a virus which feeds more easily in confined places than in the open air.

“If I had to improvise a slogan, it would be

to breathe out to breathe, to distance oneself to protect oneself

,” he confides to us.

"Yes, that makes sense," notes Pierre Tattevin, president of the French Society of Infectious Pathology and doctor at Rennes University Hospital (Ille-et-Vilaine).

This was already true for diseases like influenza or tuberculosis, there is no reason for it to be different for Covid.

Outside, the air circulates and UV rays damage viruses.

“And the doctor to point out that the most emblematic clusters - the evangelical gathering of Mulhouse in the head - were formed indoors.

Still, on the lawns, life is in full swing ... and the masks fall.

"Put it back", calls out a walker, crossing paths with a small unmasked group.

Apart from the referee, none of the footballers of the day have their noses covered.

“It is eminently complicated, concedes Pierre Tattevin.

On the one hand, yes, ventilation spreads the virus and that's why sports halls remain closed.

On the other hand, it's not easy to lead a match with your face covered… ”Like a return to reality, at the entrance to the park, the Algecos turn six days a week to carry out PCR tests.

“There are many, many people.

Lots of contact cases, ”notes the guard.

Open hairdressers, booksellers, record stores… were spared the restrictions.

But beware, says Marjolaine, to the “distorting mirror” effect.

“In addition to the restaurants that are still closed, life still comes down mainly to the park.

My 3 year old daughter has not done any cultural outing for a year, no show!

She was only able to celebrate her birthday once, her 1 year old.

It all feels like a long weekend repeating itself over and over again.

A year ago, the streets of Paris deserted during the first confinement

But, a few kilometers away, in Lagny-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), Louise's girlfriends defied the restrictions to come and celebrate her 4 years.

Without too much remorse.

"It had been planned for a fortnight, so we told the parents that we were maintaining it and no one withdrew!

After all, the children are in class together every day, ”notes Adèle, her mother.

Last year, the girl's 3-year birthday could not be held as planned because of… (first) confinement!

No question, therefore, of doing nothing this year.

"Already that the children lose a lot of landmarks because of the crisis, or are deprived of certain things, if we can compensate by cheating a little, we will not deprive ourselves", concludes the mother of the family.

Moreover, on the pretty pedestrian square in the city center, onlookers do not care about the re-containment.

In clusters or alone, they take advantage of the sun.

"I take my usual walk: bookstore, banks of the Marne…" laughs Claude, a sixty-something in sports clothes.

The same as yesterday, the same as tomorrow.

As usual, what.

Anyway, I did not understand what we had the right to do or not!
