"Good morning and happy Saturday from Palermo, Friends. Ready for the hearing in court as a" kidnapper ": yesterday, today and tomorrow always in defense of Italy. Thanks for being there, you never give up", wrote the leader of the Lega on his social networks by posting a photo from Sicily.

The preliminary hearing against the leader of the Lega Matteo Salvini, in progress in the bunker room of the Ucciardone prison in Palermo, began with the request of the Palermo Prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi to have the press attend the proceedings that by law take place in closed doors.

The senator is accused of kidnapping and refusal of official deed for having prohibited the landing in Lampedusa, in August 2019, of 147 migrants rescued at sea by the ship of the Spanish NGO Open Arms.

At the last hearing, the judge had rejected the requests of journalists to be able to participate in the proceedings, despite the public relevance of the affair.
