15 Syrian teams participated today in the regional final of the Programming Competition for University Colleges in the Arab World and Africa “ACBC”, which was organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Luxor, Egypt, which includes 145 teams from 16 countries.

The director of the programming competition at the Syrian Virtual University, Eng. Salma Qabbani, explained in a statement to SANA that the Syrian teams are 3 teams from Damascus University, 2 from Tishreen University, 2 from Al-Baath University, 1 from Aleppo, 4 from the Higher Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology, and 3 from the Virtual University, indicating that these teams qualified From the tenth national final of the Syrian Programming Competition for Universities that was held on the fifteenth of last January, after its activities ceased in 2020, in compliance with the precautionary measures to combat the Coronavirus

Qabbani pointed out that the competition lasted five continuous hours and included high-level programming issues. It is a way to bring together an elite group of undergraduate programmers, trainers and academics working in the field of informatics in one place and aims to enhance creativity and teamwork and encourage building new software and enable students to test their abilities and performance under pressure. .

Each team consists of three members and a trainer, according to Kabbani, who work on one computer to solve a set of life issues programmatically, where the first place is awarded to those who succeed in solving the largest number of problems in the shortest time possible, pointing out that the winning teams in the regional competition will qualify for the global programming competition that will be held later. .

The aforementioned competition is called a "war of minds" as it is more than just an academic and technological competition and is a platform for building a more cooperative global information society.

The Syrian teams achieved distinguished successes in Arab and international participations, and Syria, through the Syrian Virtual University in 2018, won first place in the regional competition and 23rd in the global competition for the same year, which is one of the best centers achieved by Arab universities at the time.
