We did not expect to find this thing in a human being: a 27-year-old woman came to the hospital with a cough, fever and thick phlegm after suffering from these symptoms for half a year.
Four months before she arrived at the hospital, she received a prescription for antibiotics and treatment for tuberculosis, but both had no effect on her symptoms, doctors wrote in a case report published in the Journal of the National Library of Medicine.
Doctors initially suspected, as mentioned, that it was tuberculosis, a disease that harms health, which still kills more than a million people a year around the world, but they were deceived.

When they passed the woman a breast scan they found a lesion in the right upper lobe of her lungs.
Upon further investigation, it appeared to be a structure "resembling an inverted bag 'sitting' in the bronchi."
The team removed the "mysterious find".
Although most of it was destroyed, it was still recognizable that it was a condom.

There is no doubt that the lungs are not an organ that you would expect to find a condom in.
But it turns out that can happen too.
"In retrospect, the couple said it could have happened during oral sex," the report said, "they could recall the condom disappearing during the act, and at that time the woman began to experience many sneezes and coughs."
The research team believes that the condom itself did not cause a health wound directly, due to its elasticity.
At the same time the blockage it caused could have led to the accumulation of secretions as well as infections.
The woman is expected to recover, although small parts of the condom have remained healthy following its rupture, which raises the chance that she will need to undergo another bronchoscopy.
The team believes the case may be the only one of its kind reported in the medical literature to date.
