In Australia there was heavy flooding after heavy rain and hundreds of houses were damaged

After days of heavy rain, parts of Australia are flooded. Streets have been flooded, hundreds of houses have been damaged. And the weather forecast doesn't bode well.

The water here in Windsor near Sydney has not been so high for decades.

Days of heavy rain caused floods in the east of Australia.

"It's the first time, I'm worried. We've moved our car. Now we're debating whether we should stay or go. We don't know."

According to rescue workers, hundreds of houses were damaged.

Several important roads were closed.

People have been brought to safety in parts of New South Wales.

There was a storm warning for a 900-kilometer stretch of coast.

"Unfortunately, parts of the central north coast are experiencing a

century."

New South Wales is Australia's most populous state - around eight million people live in the region.

Especially in the hinterland of Sydney, the rains were heavier than expected.

"As of Thursday, our volunteers have responded to 7,000 calls for help and the numbers are increasing by the hour."

There have been no reports of fatalities so far.

The weather forecast does not bode well: Meteorologists fear that it will continue to rain heavily in the coming days.
