The Ministry of Cultural Heritage will acquire the Villa dei Mosaici dei Tritoni on the Appia Antica.
It is a medieval farmhouse of 400 square meters built over the remains of a Roman villa with baths, of which a cistern and mosaics of great value with tritons and marine scenes remain.
The building is located at the Quo Vadis on the Appia Antica, overlooking a hectare of garden.
According to what ANSA learns, Franceschini has given the go ahead for the purchase by pre-emption for one million and 750 thousand euros.
In the letter, signed by the secretary general of the ministry of culture Salvo Nastasi and dated 17 March 2021, the general direction of fine arts and landscape of the Mic is invited to confirm to the management of the Appia Antica Archaeological Park the availability of the necessary economic resources so that you can exercise the pre-emption on the purchase.
The property is also located in a strategic area for the Appia Antica Park.
Among the hypotheses there is also that of allocating a part of it as a reception center and services for visitors.
The object of a long judicial battle, the jewel farmhouse, which had been subject to an archaeological bond since 1980, was put up for auction in 2014 with an auction base of 5 million and 250 thousand euros.
The auction, however, was deserted.
