The Easter vigil in St. Peter's Basilica, presided over by Pope Francis, will be held on Saturday 3 April at 7.30 pm, in advance of tradition.

"The participation of the faithful will be limited according to the methods used in recent months, in compliance with the health measures provided", the Vatican specifies.

Last year, the vigil presided over by the Pope was normally held at 9 pm, considering that there were no faithful present in the basilica, due to the lockdown for Covid.

This year, although it is limited, the presence of faithful is expected who will have to respect the 'curfew' of 22.

Due to the persistence of the pandemic, the Via Crucis at the Colosseum is skipped again this year but will be held in the churchyard of the Vatican basilica. The meditations were prepared by a scout group from Foligno, Umbria, and by a Roman parish, while the drawings of the 'stations' were entrusted to the children of two family homes. The Chrism Mass will be held on Holy Thursday, while there will be no traditional 'washing of the feet'.
