Seine-Maritime: a supermarket uses a medical solution to decontaminate its trolleys

2021-03-23T13:49:43.689Z

The 350 trolleys are systematically decontaminated after use. A time-consuming system for the brand but popular with customers

Every Saturday, the Super U of Franqueville-Saint-Pierre, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime), sees more than 4,000 customers pass.

The majority use the 350 trolleys made available.

Since the appearance of covid-19, in addition to the provision of masks and hydroalcoholic gel, management asked a local company to disinfect its trolleys "because it has a reassuring effect".

“During our expansion,” says Cyril Frère, its director, “a study showed that our customers demanded cleanliness before friendliness and prices.

For trolleys, it has always been difficult.

When I was presented with this solution, I said yes right away.

This is part of our drive to seek comfort and safety for our customers.

So, in recent days, the hunt for viruses has taken on another dimension.

For the first time in France according to management, a mobile decontamination unit, usually used in the hospital, medical and pharmaceutical world, is set up in front of a general public sign.

Half an hour of treatment

Developed by Lab'Science, a design office in Amboise (Indre-et-Loire) and marketed by the Creuse company Dagard, the UMD'Labs looks like a large container from the outside.

It is a sealed stainless steel cell where sixty trolleys can be stored: “Locked in, they are treated with hydrogen peroxide for half an hour, then dried by forced air.

A lamp indicates the progress of the cycle by the colors red, blue and green ”, details the frame.

Sixty carts can be decontaminated in each cycle.

Such a process requires a rhythmic organization for the company: “The healthy shopping carts are stored alongside the decontaminator.

The customers rest the used ones in the usual boxes.

Then, alternately, I have two employees who run a lot to keep up.

This is the only problem, it is very time consuming.

But the customers are really very happy and let us know ”, adds Cyril Frère.
