(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 24 - The Olympic torch race towards Tokyo 2020 starts, and will be without an audience. Exactly one year ago, on 24 March 2020, the IOC and the organizing committee announced the postponement of the Olympics, a historic fact: it was the first time that the Games were not held due to not a war. There was and still is the pandemic, but tomorrow is another historic day as the 'relay' of the Olympic torch starts from Fukushima, from 9 am local time (1 am in Italy) until July 23, when the Games brazier will be lit during the opening ceremony. On the route, due to the pandemic, the traditional presence of the public will be prohibited. But the race is in any case a tangible sign that, therefore, the 2020 Olympics will take place, even if twelve months late. A positive sign in this sense is also that the end of the state of emergency has been decreed in Tokyo.
