The offer seems to be a bargain: In Berlin, a piece of land with the almost forgotten protective bunker of the »SED district operations management« Neubrandenburg will be auctioned off at noon.

The minimum bid is just 7,000 euros.

The protection system overgrown by trees is located in a nature reserve near Hohenzieritz (Mecklenburg Lake District), about 100 kilometers north of Berlin.

Overall, it is in a "comprehensive" condition in need of renovation, according to the description of the property.

As a spokeswoman for Deutsche Grundstücksauktionen AG (Berlin) explained in advance, there are quite a few interested parties for the approximately 5000 square meter property.

Minimum bid 7,000 euros

The bunker type construction comprises two multi-room underground systems that are connected by a tunnel.

They were built in the 1960s and 1970s as part of a GDR construction program for the "military emergency".

The Hohenzieritz bunker was built under the leadership of the former head of the Neubrandenburg district leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), Johannes Chemnitzer.

The minimum bid for around 280 square meters of usable bunker space including 5000 square meters of forest secured with barbed wire is 7,000 euros.

At the auction, which takes place via the Internet, a total of 78 properties, mainly from East Germany, are called up.

As a result of the corona pandemic, interest in real estate is greater than ever, the spokeswoman said.

There were also many inquiries for a plot of land on the Mönchgut peninsula, a Wilhelminian-style house in Görlitz (Saxony) and the main building of what used to be the only television manufacturer in the former GDR - the RFT Staßfurt (Saxony-Anhalt).
