From the health crisis to the nervous breakdown: these schools at their end

2021-03-25T17:25:28.299Z

The situation in schools in the Ile-de-France region is becoming more and more difficult to manage. Work stoppages

“We can't take it anymore.

“Eyes darkened, this kindergarten director in Seine-et-Marne sums up the general feeling.

In his school group, the puzzle is at its height since the English variant explodes and spreads at great speed. The pupils declare themselves positive over the days, inexorably.

When it is not the teachers who are missing.

Valérie Pécresse, the president of Ile-de-France, confirms that the situation in schools in the capital region has become explosive.

"All the feedbacks from mayors that reach me attest to an outbreak in schools, especially primary schools, with a lot of contaminated staff," she tells us.

A city like Argenteuil (Val-d'Oise) had to close part of its canteens, due to the absence of the many agents, affected by the pandemic.

Seven schools out of the 52 in the municipality no longer serve lunch.

A puzzle for families.

"The days are busy, they are also very complicated," says an elementary school principal (who preferred to remain anonymous).

It has to face the administrative red tape linked to the health crisis.

Namely tables and other documents to be completed and sent to the academic inspectorate to ensure better tracking of adults and children affected by the disease.

Work even on sick leave

"For one case, all the steps taken end to end, it took me several hours on Saturday," she breathes.

Saliva tests, recently deployed in schools, also involve a lot of work.

"Principals must fill in tables with all the contact details, including the social security number of parents who agree to have their child tested," explains Dominique Angelini, head of kindergarten Paul-Éluard in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val -de-Marne).

“We have a lot of things to do and more and more are being added to us,” she complains.

And it was without counting on the Covid which knocked her out.

Dominique Angelini is certain to have caught it in his establishment, open despite the appearance of a cluster among the staff in recent days.

“Distancing is impossible in kindergarten.

The students don't wear masks and sometimes sneeze in our faces, ”she says.

20% of cases among teachers

"I work while being on sick leave, because the person who replaced me has also been arrested," she says.

Colleges are not spared.

Also in Val-de-Marne, in Boissy-Saint-Léger, all Cendrars supervisors, according to the Snes-FSU, are contact or positive cases for the South African variant.

The staff disengaged this Thursday morning and the Snes demands the closure of the establishment and saliva tests.

Ditto in Seine-Saint-Denis, where the incidence rate is the highest in France (more than 700 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

Strikes and rights of withdrawal of primary and secondary teachers are multiplying to denounce the lack of measures in the face of the outbreak of contamination in schools.
