The public committee for selecting candidates to carry a beacon chose singer and creator Shlomi Shabbat to bring a beacon on the eve of the 73rd Independence Day of the State of Israel, which can take place on April 14.

In a joint decision made today by the Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Hili Trooper, the two approved the recommendations of the public committee for selecting candidates to carry a beacon in a ceremony marking 73 years of independence for the State of Israel.

Shabbat, 66, a native of Yehud, is an Israeli music composer who combines different styles - from rock to Mediterranean music.

Shabbat, which was born to a family of immigrants of Turkish descent, grew through the music of the soul, which is so characterized by its musical style with which it won the heart of the consensus in Israeli music.

Among his famous songs: "Only because of the spirit", "Everyone has", "Dad" and more.

Over the years, he has collaborated with dozens of young Israeli artists and given them a stage.

Some of his poems in recent years incorporate motifs from Jewish sources and thus connect them to the general public.

In the past year, Shabbat has taken place in Corona, he has been hospitalized for a long time and has reached a difficult situation.

Upon his recovery he acted to emphasize to the public the dangers of the disease and to encourage immunization.

For years, Shabbat has donated his personal time and volunteered in various settings in front of the sick and injured, an operation he continued during the Corona period despite the health difficulty.

Shabbat even got to perform at the 71st beacon ceremony and renew the immortal song of singer Zohar Argov "Don't Ask".

Following the decision of the ministers in charge, it was decided that on the 73rd Independence Day, the State of Israel would miraculously elevate the "Israeli fraternity" and salute the citizens working to cultivate social resilience in Israel and deepen the common and unifying.

Transport Minister Miri Regev, who approved the committee's decision to select Shlomi Shabbat to hold a beacon, said: "I was pleased to inform Shlomi Shabbat of his choice to hold a beacon at the upcoming Independence Day ceremony. Thank you, God, Dear Shlomi, In your personality, in your giving and in what you are for all of us, you are much more than 'one for the soul'. Your good spirit and the moving music, that you create, manages to penetrate the hearts of all of us. "Shlomi, enter the heart. Thank you for what has been and more for what will be. You are a bridge of love in our people, for all its parts."

Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Trooper, who also supported the decision of the public committee to select the candidates to carry a beacon, said: "I am happy to grant, together with Minister Regev, Shlomi Shabbat the right to bring a beacon on Independence Day. With a soundtrack that accompanies us from the late 80s to the third decade of the 2000s, Shlomi proves how deep, love and truth there is in our cultural world, his choice to open his heart and volunteer in Israeli society, and of course his songs that combine East "To the West and between tradition and innovation are all that is beautiful and good in Israeli society. Music that unites all the populations of our beautiful people. Its recovery from the corona virus, just like its musical path, is largely a victory because of the wind."
