The breeding season of Chinese agate has begun, and it is particularly colorful.

Nature and Parks Authority volunteer David Reizek was privileged to watch the event in the Sovev Eilat Reserve and document it.

"Chinese acorns are protected wild animals from the acacia family, and their length reaches up to 25 cm. They are common in the Negev, the Dead Sea and the Arava and are named after the Sinai Desert, where they were first discovered," he told Walla!

Dotan Tourism is a member of the Science Division of the Nature and Parks Authority.

According to him, the spring and summer period is the breeding period of Chinese acorns, so the males are adorned and their heads become painted in bright blue and sometimes other parts of their bodies, which gave the familiar expression from the world of sex: "blue head".

The female wears invitation colors on her body

Chinese agate wears shades of strong blue and turquoise on the front of the body, in the head area and shoulder girdle of the male during the courtship season.

As these colors are more intense and more prominent in the field, they are a vigorous signal to the female in front of a healthy and strong male, which is a great option to choose from.

The female wears invitation colors on her body, which include red spots on the sides of the body.

She goes out to look for a suitable partner, and after mating changes the colors of her head, which turns blue.

The female will strongly oppose further courtship attempts.
