"I just killed my wife."
With those words, a 71-year-old retiree confessed to the crime of his 79-year-old partner. He did it in front of the police at Escobar's 3rd police station, where
he turned himself in minutes
after committing the femicide.
According to sources in the case informed

, the perpetrator -identified as Marcos Zapata- gave details of what he had done:
"I cut her neck with a knife, she is in the house," he
said.
The femicide was committed after 10 in the morning in a house in Cabo Primero Sullings at 700, almost on the corner of Miter, in the Buenos Aires town of Garín.
The policemen who had heard Zapata's confession a few minutes earlier approached that place.
Upon arrival, the agents found the body of María Flores Barselo on a deck chair and confirmed that she had a
deep wound in her throat
.
The work of the experts of the Scientific Police was supervised by the prosecutor Claudio Audjian, in charge of the decentralized Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 5 of Escobar.
According to sources in the case, so far
no previous complaints
of gender violence made by the victim against the perpetrator of the crime
have been confirmed

The prosecutor will investigate this Saturday Zapata for "homicide aggravated by the bond" to the detriment of his wife, a crime that provides for
life imprisonment
.
Audjian also arranged for an autopsy to be carried out in the next few hours to determine the causes and mechanics of the crime.
In the last ten years in Argentina there is an average of one femicide every 30 hours.
According to statistics from the Office of Domestic Violence of the Supreme Court, in 2018 alone there were 278. Most murders occur in the homes of the victims and are committed by partners or exes.
