When for many experts the arrival of the second wave of covid-19 infections is imminent, the national government confirmed this Friday that next Sunday the first vaccines against the coronavirus will arrive in the country from the distribution made by the Covax mechanism, as it had anticipated Bugle days ago.
It will be
218,000 doses
of the vaccine developed jointly by the University of Oxford and the AstraZeneca laboratory.
As officially reported, the shipment is scheduled to arrive
at
Ezeiza International Airport at
7:10 on Sunday
through the KLM airline.
This first shipment is part of the
nine million doses
that Argentina will receive through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO), according to official sources, confirming what was reported in January by the Ministry of Health of the Nation .
However, that figure will not be reached anytime soon.
According to the delivery schedule released at the time by Covax, Argentina will receive only 1.9 million doses until May of this year.
As reported by Covax in a statement, days ago,
142 countries will receive 237 million doses
of vaccines developed by the University of Oxford and the AstraZeneca laboratory.
Covax is co-chaired by the Gavi Alliance for Vaccines, the Coalition for the Advancement of Innovations for Epidemic Preparedness and the WHO.
Covax deliveries in Latin America are coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Most of the vaccines that are being distributed now, such as those that will arrive in Argentina this Sunday, are from AstraZeneca, and are being produced at a company plant located in South Korea.
From there they travel by plane to Amsterdam, from where the distribution is made to the different countries.
“The manufacturer leaves the doses at the airport in Holland and PAHO coordinates the supplier that takes them to each country.
In the case of Argentina, in this first round of allocation, the country has taken the option of making the
purchase
process
directly with the supplier
.
In other words, in this instance, it directly acquires and withdraws the assigned vaccines, ”they explained from PAHO.

In turn, the Minister of Health of the Nation, Carla Vizzotti, reported that next week a million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, of Chinese origin, will arrive in the country.
The Government had announced the signing of an agreement by which the country would receive three million doses, but after that announcement, the arrival of the doses was postponed.
